Otus (aka Sebastian Cole) readies his next solo EP on Baby Rollén’s Slump Recordings imprint. A two track release oozing with musical expression and originality. Exploring the realms of melody, harmony and dissonance - the Brixton-based producer and DJ pulls on influences from 20th-century minimalism in his composition, to contemporary studio techniques with a distinct aptitude towards synths and programming throughout this rich 2-track EP.

Otus on making Juniper EP - “The concept for this EP came from wanting to create a release using predominately one synth, to see how far I could push one bit of equipment to create a whole EP, I chose an ARP 2600 clone to try this. The original demo of the A-side ‘Juniper’ was written in a couples hours with all the synth lines recorded in one continuous take. With this EP I wanted to make something that would connect with people on a more emotional level, really take people on a journey. The B-side Zinnia was written with the same intention. I tried to make it into a proper techno track but as soon as I removed the kick it gave the melodic elements more space to breath and move in different ways, even with out the kick drum you can still build tension like a dance track and give people a chance to take in the moment.”
